Minnesota Chapter

Welcome New Members!

Thank you for choosing to partner with the Minnesota Chapter of the Association for Black Women in Higher Education (MN-ABWHE).  We sincerely appreciate your interest in the association and look forward to learning more about you, your strengths and passions, as well as your skills and expertise in order to further the mission of the organization.

The Association’s mission is to create space for professional and personal development of its members and allow them to connect, support, and commit their talents and expertise in promoting positive outcomes for their communities.  ABWHE seeks to:

  • promote the intellectual growth and educational development of Black women in higher education;
  • strive to eliminate racism, sexism, classism and other social barriers which hinder Black women in higher education from achieving their full potential;
  • provide academic and social mentoring for Black youth in order to ensure the participation and success of future generations of Blacks in higher education;
  • communicate the history of personal and professional achievement of Black women in higher education in order to preserve and increase the presence and place of Black women and men in higher education;
  • utilize our talents, strengths, and expertise to advance our vision of social justice.

Yolanda Lewis and I bring to you and the organization, diverse educational and professional backgrounds, and life experiences that we know will be assets to building sustainable relationships and a thriving organization for years to come. As a chapter, we offer a variety of benefits to you and some include:   (1) bi-monthly professional development, (2) community engagement, (3) access to database employment options, (4) consistent mentoring, and (5) marketing and publication opportunities.

We are excited to collaborate with you in order ensure that this wonderful organization becomes a premiere resource for African American women, students, K-12 partners, and postsecondary institutions in Minnesota.
